What makes it different
The Vision Jet is the only single-engine civilian jet ever certified. That sentence carries most of the story: regulators and buyers alike had long treated two engines as the price of entry for a jet, and Cirrus argued that a modern turbofan plus a whole-airframe parachute changed the arithmetic.
The parachute is the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System, carried over from the SR22 piston single. Pull the handle and a rocket deploys a canopy that lowers the entire aeroplane. Later aircraft add Garmin's Safe Return, which allows a passenger to press a button and have the aircraft navigate to an airport, land and stop by itself.
The performance is modest by jet standards, 311 knots and 31,000 feet, closer to a fast turboprop than to a Citation. That is the point. It is designed to be flown single-pilot by an owner stepping up from a high-performance piston, and it has been the most-delivered business jet by unit count every year since 2018.
