France & Italy · Founded 1981
The Franco-Italian venture that owns the regional turboprop market.
ATR — Avions de Transport Régional — is a joint venture between Airbus and Leonardo, founded in 1981 to build regional turboprops. It has done exactly one thing since, and done it better than anyone: over 1,700 aircraft delivered across the ATR 42 and ATR 72.
On short regional legs, its economics are almost impossible to argue with: roughly half the fuel of a comparable regional jet for a journey only marginally slower. It is the reason propellers are still serious business in commercial aviation.
Silhouettes are sized by real wingspan — bigger aircraft draw bigger.
