The story so far

Tupolev has always blurred the line between bomber and airliner — its Tu-114, still the fastest propeller-driven airliner ever built, was a strategic bomber with a passenger fuselage grafted on, and it flew at 770 km/h on contra-rotating propellers.

The bureau got the Tu-144 into the air two months before Concorde, making it the first supersonic transport ever to fly. Its Tu-160 is the largest and heaviest combat aircraft ever built, and remains in production in modernised form.
