The story so far

Embraer was founded as a Brazilian state project in 1969 and privatised in 1994, and it grew by taking a market the giants ignored: jets carrying 70 to 150 people. Its E-Jets sold more than 1,700 and became the backbone of regional flying across the Americas and Europe.

The E2 generation added geared turbofans and a new wing, making it one of the most fuel-efficient small jets in the sky. Boeing agreed to buy the commercial division in 2019, then walked away during the pandemic — leaving Embraer independent, and still the only serious competitor to the duopoly below 150 seats.
