The category, explained

A widebody is any airliner with two aisles — a fuselage wide enough that passengers walk down two corridors instead of one, typically 5 to 6.5 metres across. The format was invented by the Boeing 747 and the Airbus A300 around 1970, and it made mass long-haul travel possible.

Widebodies dominate the record boards for a simple reason: length and wingspan scale with the payload they carry across oceans. Every aircraft here carries a two-aisle cabin, and between them they fly the great majority of the world's intercontinental routes.
